Shez, Very nice and damn good value - tastes expensive when matured just right.

Ba,

Please don't buy this wine again: - "'cos I found this almost undrinkable" He said . The more we shall enjoy it, the more you will dislike it !

I see it's now ~£7.50 at Tesco (or £10.99 on Amazon ! ), no doubt one for the occasional discount...

I think I'd be as bold to say that to me, this 5.99 bottle will give far more enjoyment than any bottle of vintage champagne ever will

The 2003 blew the 2005 away. Malcolm Gluck rated it 16.5 reaching 19.5 in 2008. By the time I got some in the summer of 2006 or 07 it was golden, mellow and very honeyed. Stunning stuff. Gluck rated the 2005 14.5 with no potential to age and although it's obviously semillon and I stand by my ' no better wine for £5.99 ' comment it hasn't really aged at all. The last one I had about 18 months ago was pale, acidic but not tart and quite full in body. I thought the richness was holding back the flavour.

I think Gluck's 14.5 was harsh but he was right to rate it down. However, mellow is less likely to suit you than it does me so I can understand you being impressed and semillon is supposed to be toasty with age and not mellowed and honeyed.

That said, I would swap a PB 19 for a PL S 03.........all the lush beeswax without the body.

Lovely !

Can you check the colour when you pour your next glass.

will do.
Wasn't too Golden from what I recall last night but will check again.

I'd like to know what the "spreadable" version is like so as to know what to expect and compare this with

do you have any left?

No, none left. I must've bought about 50 05's over the last few years. Tesco has a never ending supply of them. Some are less toasty than others and I enjoyed these enough to keep buying a half case every few months in the hope that they would develop like the 03 but i've given up on them now.

If your 05 had been golden in colour I would've tried again as an aged and mellow semillon is a beautiful thing.

The Hunter Valley has a bigger reputation than the Barossa but I haven't had one as nice as the 03 PL.

Glad you like the 05 though. It's always good to get a wine you love at a good price.

£5.99 was a bargain. I was buying at £4.50 when they had the 25% off.

Still holding out really well and very good
The lemon flavours replaced by apple this time. Waxy with a light toasty finish. The only slight downside might be the finish could be longer but this is easily resolved by taking another glug of this delicious wine
For the moment I prefer this barossa offering to the hunter valley from mount pleasant which I find is a bit too lemony

No, not the Margret river Sem
This is the (now called on their website) "classic range" Barossa Semillion with the queen of clubs on the label
We used to be able to pick this up in all the supermarkets for about a fiver but it no longer seems to be stocked on any shelves unless you look hard and get lucky

Pulled out a solitary bottle of 2009 I’d been holding on to (still have an 05 stashed somewhere too)
Beeswax, sweetened lime & toast. Delicious stuff at 11yrs old, such a shame this went off radar from our usual suppliers.
Looking forward to popping my final 05 sometime in the near future
