I bought this Medoc 2006 to make up my 6 bottles with an extra 5% off. Mistake number 1. Congratulation to Yvonne Mau for selling it to the UK. The French public would give it a wide berth for any more than E3.50 Euros. This is one of the least satisfying generic Medocs I've tasted for many years. I am very choosey, and don't normally buy to make up the numbers. Nose - very little, no fruit to speak of, a little oak Mouth - Watery, thin, Primary palate - tired wet oak, tannic over extracted skins, a bit of Cab cigar box, but mainly dried out and old Merlot (no blackcurrent as claimed) Colour - a bit darker than cheapest Entre de Mer - Secondary palate - Astringent, drying-out fast, unsweetened under ripe Sloes, tons of brett. Far too much stalk and oak for the meagre fruit. Gum numbing when tried without food; NB - But better 18 hours after 1st openning and some peppery secondary flavour. I may have bought a duff bottle - Hmnn, 50% discount and the classic label, I've been here before with Yvonne Mau, Calvet's generic stuff is generally more reliable and cheaper. Finish - the flat taste and black pepper corns disappears quickly. http://img.tesco.com/wine/UIAssets/pi/9 ... 26x150.jpg In the week I openned a bottle of 2005 Lalande de Pomerol that I bought in a French Supermarket for E8.50 euro, about £6.00 sterling at the time - it was unctious sipping nectar and full and dark, with a superb ripe fruit length. The wine is sold out on the web site - Looks as if most folks have accepted the bait. If you see it on the shelf GK - Not recommended and the original £12.34 is absurd. You Have Been Advised |

These supermarket basement-Bordeaux's and bogof's are generally best avoided, they rarely offer good value and are often greener than the bottle they came in. Even the drinkable stuff is generally over-priced imo. Look south to the Rhone for much better QPR. |

A collection of Medoc stuff that was probably just OK on release. The cork was hardly stained - Parcels of this, must have hung around in those big old bordelais barrels for ages ? Yeah, OK - Me got caught by a fancy label Your House White looks ![]() Also - This one for drinking 2010 / 11. http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/brows ... 4294965860 Hmnn - Have you checked to see if it has sufficient depth of fruit to mature correctly ? Waitrose have followed with a similar 2007 CdR village. GK - Link to the Spectator 2007 Rhone report card, You may have seen it. Provided these 2007 CdRV's stand up properly now. We could score now, while the crunch is dominating old contracts. I'm enjoying Jean Luc Colombo Crozes 2005 a la moment. But I could do with some bargains for twenty ten quaffing. http://www.winespectator.com/Wine/Featu ... 79,00.html I shall report on any 2007's that will turn out well. |

Coincidently, popped in my local Tesco this morning on the way to work (they have a section for wine that's 'reduced to clear', most of which is pap but occasionally there are a few gems like the Vergelegen SB '08 I got recently for £4) and noticed this was reduced to £4.49. Cheers, I probably would have given it a go if it were not for your TN. I don’t think there's any shame in picking up the occasional dog, it happens to us all. Some people spend hundreds at auction and still end up with a bottle of p**s. ![]() |
