There's a new offer on Tesco wine, buy two cases and get 25% discount.

However they have left all the usual discounts in place meaning there are some good deals to be had.

Do any of you rate the Ara Pathway SB 2011? Available for £4.86 with promo.
Link.

Any other suggestions?

Graham,

CdR

 Plan de Dieu CdR villages 2011 - Mel liked it - see Articles - I dont know '11 cheap CdR myself - Not tried any of them yet. Mel liked it more that the £17 chateauneuf ! which was tasted immediately afterwards

Rioja 2004
Tesco Finest Viña Mara Rioja Gran Reserva, Jancis and the Wine Gang and Mel like this a lot, £7.50 each.
Berberana '04 GR is dirt cheap. Tasted in London, about 10 day ago. Good standard and nicely mature - NOT classic aged Rioja though - more of a plump style.

Various SB wines

Sorry I only know the other ARA (embossed wall paper label) on the '11 which I endorsed for £6.66. I can advise that Awaterre '12 will not be for you

I've been asking the same Q. about the Pouilly Fume that Mel liked last October

I cant get any response from them who've tried the wine ?

Some offers - see Offers in QO home, Tesco sort, and they expire at midnight tonight 26/03/2013

So, We need these white wine SB police - (Ba and Goose) to come out of their burrows !

I rate the Chablis 1er '08 - If your cellar storage is rubbish (warm) drink this year.

Jackson Estate 'Vintage Widow' Pinot Noir 2010 £11.25, Majestic are selling the 2011 for £22, special offer at the mo £19.99 !

I'm trawling most of them

Rowlocks ! I'm concentrating on 3 seperate bridge events and contemplating the ride home later with a little trepidation.
Gs comments (the Fumé) fine. Nice dryish white wine. Anything decent at £6 these days has to be a good deal.
Don't want to buy 6 of anything though, even at double-dip.

The Ara 2011 is rich and on the full side of medium bodied. It's austere in flavour. Think sb from the South of France for it's lack of flavour and Australia for it's semillon like richness.

It's not rubbish just fluffing hard work.

I gave the Ara a miss, one thing I cant stand is a SB that's hard work. I did stock up on some white gluggers for the summer, if it ever arrives.

I also took a case of the Plan de Dieu, at £4.11 a bottle I think Im on to a winner considering the general praise for this wine, JR rates it highly too.

What the wine ? We know the other answer, Physics and effects of the thermal winds, melting ice caps, Atlantic sea temperature in the mid latitudes - the Jet Stream postion

GK, this must be the 1st time since the genesis of Quaffers', that I have bought in, and undercut your buying price ! Struth.

There is a voucher that you should have got on 18th March and valid until the 31st, worth a fiver, so I bought this CdR for £3.70 a bottle delivered !

Delivery is free when spending over £50, the 25% is then deducted. I havent tested the software **maths to the actual line though.
The voucher is applied after the discount is given.

**I believe, the best price you may be able to get for a dozen, is an average £3.75 per bottle delivered. If you fancy mixed case offers, that could give you a bit of variety.

Q. GK, perhaps you know, the Voucher was valid for a spend of £50 or more after the discount is applied. Laying aside the voucher deduction, could you get the bottle price down to £3.12 delivered ?

Very good Ba, you got the 2010 Hautes cotes as well - Excellent.
The '07 Cordoniu vintage cava is cheaper online - but you didn't want six of course.

My dozen included 6 of the proper Chab premier cru (union of Chablis producers) For minerality, elegance and depth, the Baillard 1er offer is many notches behind.

I must try ARA 12. I can advise that Goldwater '12 Wairau valley is streaks ahead in "terms of pleasure" of Blind River 12 Awaterre valley. The beauty and magic of the Goldwater '10 in NOT there however.

D's Chablis PC - Ha ha  . You did get the Premier Cru made in Union des Viticulteurs de Chablis by Bertrand Cherel - Good.
A very good score from the Winegang 92/93 and a Mel star some time back. ** You could buy the grand cru by Bertrand, which is still in stock at only a wisker under £27 a bottle, in the FW list...Oh yeah !

In the nick of time Ba, this ** chablis has gone OOS this morning / last night ! 28/03/13

I'm hoping that your bottles have not been sitting on a warm shelf in the store for too long. However, Posh Bristol residents with a bit of "nouse" would have been grabbing it - So turnover would be fast :)

Enjoy.

You had me worried for a minute there. Dashed down 2 flights to check. Yep ! That's it, 2009 but no mention of Cherel on it. Will try it over the w/e and if OK can look for some more with the voucher on Monday plus.

Careful on those stairs Mr B.

Tesco said Bertrand Cherel - but the signature looks more like something L gros

The Bertrand Cherel signature is not on the label - so the info I put-up earlier may be wrong.
The Winegang's press TN report for the 2008 has been deleted from the Tesco website - WG quoted the vintage of course.

There is a difference between the '08 and the '09 vintages. See Mel's Tesco articles for October 2012 and July 2011. Tesco put the '09 in the stores because shelf conditions are not so good as in their warehouse. This makes sense, since the 08's minerality could be a bit fragile (to excessive warmth all the time), but loads of concentration, and a hazel / minor oak ghost is present.

The 2008 is superior, but I still believe that you will be happy with this '09 wine.

The plot thickens...the signature is Cyril Gros

Taste the Difference Chablis Premier Cru 2010 £13.99
13%
100% chardonnay from 15yr old vines. This Chablis is selected from the best single vineyards owned by the famous Union des Viticulteurs de Chablis and blended by their chief winemaker. The juice undergoes cold settling before fermentation. Fermentation is carried out using carefully selected yeasts and both yeast and malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is matured on lees in stainless steel tanks for 12 months. Winemaker: Cyril Gros.

A hint of lees on the nose. Beautifully rich and leesy palate. This is lovely. Long and correct.
